Leanne McGain

Leanne is a Clinical Therapist with extensive experience in the field of mental health with children, adolescents and adults over the last 20 years.  Leanne is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker and a Family Therapist.

Leanne is incredibly passionate about achieving the best possible outcomes with all of her clients, offering a warm and welcoming approach at all times.  Leanne seeks to ensure that you feel comfortable talking openly and honestly, in a non-judgemental and supportive environment.   Leanne has done a lot of work with marginalised and minority communities with a good understanding of specific needs including those from the LGBTIQ and ATSI communities as well as those suffering from a mental illness or disability.   Leanne has an inclusive approach, providing therapy to each individual and where appropriate their families and or carer/s  in a way that achieves the best possible outcome seeking to install or reinvigorate a sense of hope and self-determination.

Previously Leanne has worked for many years in the field of trauma and abuse providing therapeutic interventions to children and adolescents, which is why Leanne now has a particular interest in trauma, grief and loss.  Leanne also has expertise working with individuals who have a physical or intellectual disability and has worked in Clinical Mental Health for the majority of her career.

Leanne provides relationship counselling and family therapy; with a warm and supportive approach to the complexities and challenges that often face us.  Leanne has extensive training in working within relationships including how best to approach the family structure and factoring in children’s needs, providing a space to safely and neutrally work through conflict, custody issues, sexuality, the role of a carer, changing future directions and the impact of longstanding trauma.

Leanne specialises in providing therapy, with targeted goals, and provides counselling to individuals suffering from but not limited to, Depression, Anxiety, Mood Disorders, Psychotic illnesses, Co-morbid mental illness, chronic illness and substance use Disorder and Personality Disorders.

She operates from an evidence-based framework with a particular focus on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness and Single Session Family Therapy (SSFT).
