Flexible Access to Psychological Support
You do not need a GP referral or Mental Health Care Plan to access psychology services at SGI Psychology.
Private sessions allow you to book appointments directly, choose the frequency that suits you, and focus on your concerns without the administrative requirements attached to funded programs.
Some clients prefer private therapy for greater flexibility, privacy, or continuity of care, while others may transition to private sessions after using Medicare-subsidised services.
Who Private Sessions Are Suitable For
Private psychology sessions may be suitable if you:
• Do not wish to use a Mental Health Care Plan
• Are not eligible for Medicare-subsidised sessions
• Have used your Medicare sessions for the calendar year
• Prefer greater flexibility in session frequency
• Wish to address concerns not covered under funded schemes
• Value privacy without involvement of third-party funders
Do I Need a GP Referral?
A GP referral or Mental Health Care Plan is not required for private sessions.
However, some clients still choose to involve their GP for broader care coordination. This is entirely optional and guided by your preferences and clinical needs.
What We Can Help With
Private clients commonly seek support for:
• Anxiety, stress, and burnout
• Low mood or emotional overwhelm
• Relationship or family difficulties
• Life transitions and adjustment issues
• Trauma and recovery from adverse experiences
• Personal development, resilience, and wellbeing
Sessions are tailored to your individual goals and circumstances.
Our Team and Approach
Our team includes fully registered psychologists, provisional psychologists, and registered counsellors experienced in working with private clients across a wide range of presentations.
Clients are matched with the most appropriate practitioner based on their needs, preferences, and therapeutic goals.
We work in a professional, ethical, and client-centred manner, with clear communication around fees, scheduling, and treatment planning.
Fees and Rebates
Private sessions are self-funded and are not subject to Medicare rebate requirements.
If you later decide to use a Mental Health Care Plan, we can discuss whether transitioning is appropriate and assist with the process where possible.
Book an Appointment
You can book private sessions directly online — with or without a referral.
