Psychological Support After a Transport Accident
A transport accident can have a profound psychological impact — even when physical injuries appear to have healed. Many people experience emotional, cognitive, and behavioural changes following a road accident, which can affect daily functioning, work capacity, relationships, and overall wellbeing.
At SGI Psychology, we provide TAC-funded psychological services to support individuals recovering from the psychological effects of transport accidents and road trauma.
Our focus is on helping clients regain emotional stability, rebuild confidence, and move forward at a pace that feels safe and supported.
Common Psychological Effects of Transport Accidents
Following a transport accident, people may experience:
• Anxiety or fear when driving or travelling
• Post-traumatic stress symptoms (intrusive memories, hypervigilance, avoidance)
• Low mood, emotional numbness, or irritability
• Sleep disturbances or nightmares
• Reduced confidence and loss of independence
• Difficulty returning to work or normal routines
• Chronic pain-related distress or adjustment difficulties
These reactions are common and valid responses to trauma. Psychological support can play a key role in recovery and long-term adjustment.
